Your new horse came home with great promises of how fantastic they are.

Or the test rides went really well…

But now your horse is home they are acting totally differently and you don’t know whether to hang in there and try to work through it, or just send them back (or if the seller will even take them).

Do any of these sound familiar?

  • Your horse won’t go easily
  • Your horse won’t stop or steer when you ask
  • They won’t stand for the farrier
  • Are aggressive toward you during work or feeding
  • Do they buck for some unknown reason
  • Or are they just so scared of the world it’s causing them to be dangerously unpredictable

Sometimes it’s just small behavioural problems where the horse is basically ok, but just doing enough odd things to lose your confidence in riding them. Like the occasional spook at the scary end of the arena. Or something on the trail that makes them not want to keep going and each ride ends up in a fight that you get tired of.

Other times they totally lose control and bolt or buck so hard the rider comes off which can have potentially life threatening outcomes if you end up injured or in hospital and not knowing what caused this to happen.

On the health side there are horses who develop health problems such as ulcers, colic, navicular or other unexplained lameness. Those can be frustrating, time consuming and incredibly expensive, and yet mostly avoidable, if you know a few simple guidelines to follow.

Maybe your new horse appeared to be safe and easy to handle originally, but after having them for a little while, cracks started to appear in the training, resulting in unwanted behaviours.

And you don’t understand why.

Or know how to fix it.

And the amount of conflicting information puts you further into confusion and overwhelm.

Here's how we work our way through the confusion...

Module 1 Horse Personality Profile

How to understand what makes your horse tick so you can be around your horse with confidence.

Horses are very much individuals, they are born with a very unique set of characteristics, from their early handling, education and environment play a part in how their personality has been shaped into the horse you have today.

There are some indicators that help us to understand the horse’s basic personality and whether they are aloof, social, fearful or challenging.

From there we are able to better understand what we can expect from them, and which areas in their training they are going to need the most help with.

Module 2 Care and Feeding

Keeping your horse healthy for peace of mind and budget.

The nutrition and care advice comes in thick and fast, and quite often conflicting.

  • How does diet affect your horse for Laminitis, Colic, Itch?
  • What do feed labels really mean?
  • Is your horse better barefoot, booted, or shod?
  • Should you rug, or leave your horse naked?
  • Does your horse need bodywork?
  • How do you know when you need experts: Vet, Farrier, Dentist, Bodyworker?

Module 3 Effective Horse Handling

Taking Personal Space and using it effectively around your horse.

This training session is our first where we spend half a day together going through the principles of safe handling on the ground, and beginning preparation for riding.

We will work together to give you the tools you need to be able to safely take your horse from paddock to stable, handling during preparation and the basics of lunging for education (instead of for fitness).

We will add to your toolbox by showing you how to tell if your horse has tight spots that may make them unwilling to work well with you.

Module 4 Conformation and Function

Assessing if your new horse is biomechanically capable of doing the job you are going to ask of them.

Conformation is super important if you are going to high level competition, not always so critical if you are wanting to trail ride at the speed the horse is happy to go at.

Knowing where your horse may have some weakness due to poor conformation allows you to make some decisions about what may you ask them to do.

Some things that show up as poor conformation may actually be able to be corrected through hoof care and or bodywork, allowing your horse to be much more comfortable.

Module 5 Essential Gear Fit

Eliminate behavioural problems caused through poor gear fit.

Gear includes bridle, bit, saddle, boots, and anything else you may ask your horse to wear.

Improper fitting of a bridle can give your horse a headache, and may make them unwilling to wear one.

A bit that is incorrect, either through shape, size, or placement can cause extreme pain through pinching the delicate bones in the jaw, or metal hitting on teeth.

If your saddle is not shaped correctly for your horse, this can lead to all sorts of issues under saddle, from won’t go forward, head tossing, short stepping, to bucking on transitions.

Module 6 Map Out Your Training

Learn how to start and progress with your new horse in a way that will build to a productive relationship between you.

This is the second half day training with me where we will review your progress from the first hands on training day and take the ridden preparation to the next stage.

During this training we will assess if your horse is ready for riding, and what needs to be in place to ride safely.

You will discover the 3 step process that allows you to check in with your horse before each ride and assess their state of mind.

Bonus Module Where To Next

Moving forward to an amazing relationship and magnificent life with your horse.

Here we will review your original goals, how far you have both come, and what’s possible next.

The first beta program of the Horse Ownership Blueprint will include 2 individual half day training sessions for you with my horses (or can be with your horse). NOTE: This offer is only open until January 30, 2020.

During those personal sessions you will learn how to do effective groundwork, how to identify softness, and how to assess if your horse is ready to ride. Future trainings will be in small groups where my time will be spread between the participants.

Because of my time commitment to this program and the amount of time I’ll be working with you personally, this is a limited offer and I only have space to work with 6 people right at the moment.

So if you’re ready to invest in your relationship with your horse then I invite you to register today for the Horse Ownership Blueprint program so you too can build an amazing relationship and magnificent life with your horse.

THE RESULTS FROM OUR PARTICIPANTS

Debbie has helped me on many levels. She not only trained my horses (and me), but the best thing is that she showed me how to appreciate and understand them; How to always think positively about their behaviour.

My mindset has changed to a much more positive one. The anxiety I had around my horses greatly diminished and I am able to fully enjoy them. I can read them well and learned to follow my intuitions about them.

Horses can teach you a lot about life if you let them. Debbie has helped me see this and build strong connections with all (now 3!) of my horses.

Judy

I am now much more aware of the interactions between us and have the tools to build our relationship confidently.

Extremely happy with Debbie’s help and ongoing support when handling super brat Tony.

The confidence gained from the training Debbie showed me has also translated when working with my other horses who I hadn’t realised were not respecting me as they should.

Wendy

I wish there was a workshop before I bought my horse as the riding instructor who thought I knew what I was doing was sooo wrong!

Deb has more importantly completely re-trained me on how to be a horsewoman. I now have a fuller and clearer understanding of the horse I love. I have been on a fantastic Journey and I am still continuing to learn new things.

Toby is such a beautiful horse who is a part of our family. Thank you Deb for being patient, understanding and most of all, now a great friend.
